About us
We don’t just rescue stray dogs and cats from the streets of Tecamachalco. We give them a second chance at life. From the moment we find them struggling and invisible, to the day they find their forever home, our mission is simple: transform fear into trust, abandonment into belonging, and invisibility into hope.
The story behind the purpose:
Hey, I am liz. I’m originally from Tecamachalco, Mexico, where stray dogs and cats are part of everyday life. You grow up seeing it so often that you convince yourself it doesn’t affect you. But it does. It stays with you.
I’ve always been an animal lover. Always wanting to help, always heartbroken knowing I couldn’t take them home. I watched rescuers and people online doing the work and kept asking myself the same question: what if that were me?
I’ve lived in Australia for eight years as an expat. I enjoy the beauty of a place where this problem isn’t constant, where animals are mostly safe. But the weight never left. The problem didn’t disappear — it just wasn’t in front of me. And at some point, I had to ask myself: when was I part of the solution?
In 2025, I stopped asking and started building. I returned to Mexico to repurpose an old pig farm into a sanctuary. In just two months, the space was rehabilitated and 35 dogs were rescued.
Today, I manage the sanctuary with the help of two incredible people—one who leads the adoption process and another who takes care of feeding and cleaning for our dogs. We are a small team, but deeply committed.
The sanctuary is sustained through personal support and donations, which allow us to provide food, medical care, and safe conditions for the dogs. This work is built on responsibility, care, and the belief that small teams can create meaningful change.
Mission
Our mission is to create a sanctuary for stray dogs and cats where they can finally enjoy life. A life without fear, without hunger, and without needing to survive on the streets.
Vision
Our vision is to change the way the world thinks about stray animals. Not as a distant issue, but as a real and urgent one that affects communities, ecosystems, and lives.
Non-Profit Philosophy
At Santuario Domínguez, we are committed to transforming the lives of dogs and cats who have lived on the streets of Mexico by giving them safety, love, and the chance to become the best versions of themselves.
